Protein Shake before a workout?

I have been taking a protein shake before and after my workouts lately. Is it necessary to take one before a workout? My stomach doesn't seem to mind in the afternoon but while I'm working out it doesn't seem to agree.

Re: Protein Shake before a workout?

My general impression is that it isn't necessary before. Only after. Pre-workout fuel is usually a simple carb product of some kind, when people use it. Most WOD's being less than an hour of work, though, from my research it seems best to skip the pre-workout anything and just have your recovery nutrition. You might wanna field this question in the Nutrition section, though.

Re: Protein Shake before a workout?

Protein shakes before and during non metcon stuff has seemed fine. However, with metcon it was asking for throwup action. Stuff like just lifting. I tried it with gymnastics and it was hit or miss as it seemed to affect me in the middle of the workouts. I have switched to milk before with no probs really though I have friends who sip on the Cytomax stuff through workout with no probs either.

This was the Cytomax stuff mixed with whey.
