Exclamation Started Zone today; and already feel like quitting... HELP!!!!!

Hi Xfitters,
Just abit of background info....

I have been very lean all my life, in the last 4 years i have taken up alot of weights training and gained 15kg of muscle with around 12% Bodyfat.

My diet has consisted of whatever i have felt like at the time, unfortunately this has included alot of Fast food and other very unfavourable Carbs.

I started crossfitting about 2 months ago and have been going strong, I have been reading alot about the Zone diet and today jumped head first into it, here is what i have eaten today, below i will explain why im thinking of quitting already!


6am 4 Blocks
1 Apple
1 cup skim milk
80gms Deli meat
1/2 zone bar
about 20 macadamias

9am 2 Blocks
80gms Deli meat
1 orange
about 20 macadamias

1030am 2 Blocks
60gms Tuna
1 apple
about 20 macadamias

1330 2 Blocks
80gms Deli Meat
1 orange
about 20 macadamias

1445 2 Blocks
1 pear
80gms Deli meat
about 20 macadamias

1700 2 Blocks
80gms Deli Meat
1 Apple
about 20 macadamias

2000 5 Blocks
120gms Skinless chicken breast
1.5 cups vegies, half cup peas
olive oil
1 cup skim milk
apple
1/2 orange
avacado

2130 1 block
1/2 zone bar

Im trying to eat heaps of nuts to increase weight as i wanna go from 11% up to around 15% and hopefully gain some muscle mass whilst im at it.
I have pretty much copied Gabe "Dutch" Lowys daily zone diet...

Ok now heres the problem, all day i have felt like absolute S*$* i have been really, really tired. I have not felt hungry at all but my body feels empty and im having trouble concentrating, i have been having Mood swings like a pregnant chick (no offence)

Is this part of my body "detoxing" as my days use to be full of just stuffing bad carbs in it? or is there something wrong with the way im approaching this diet????

PLEASE HELP AS IM LOSING MY MIND AS TO WHY I FEEL LIKE THIS, THEN I READ OTHER POSTS AND SEE HOW PEOPLE THINK ITS THE BEST FEELING EVER???? WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG??

Relax, it's completely normal. If you're used to higher carbs, jumping into Zone you will need an adjustment period before you feel...well, "in the zone". Just stick with it for 2 weeks, no matter how you feel. You'll get there!

I read in Dr. Sears book it takes at least 4 days for anyone to start feeling like they are in the zone and many people it takes a bit longer.

Cool, so you all think i should just stick with it? What the hell is causing me to feel like absolute S*(T??
What are your thoughts on my above eating plan, as far as putting on body fat/ mass??

definateyl stick with, your body is craving the insulin flood you used to give it. Don't give in. By the way how much do you weigh and how tall are you? you're on a 20 block plan. that's alot...

Your body is freaking out because it is craving insulin. Have patience.

Another thought. Are you a coffee drinker? I get all weird when I accidentally skip my morning cup of Joe. Just a thought.

Also, switch up your nuts. You are going to get sick of macadamias in less than a week if you are eating them 6x a day.

She seemed to have gone through the same thing, only much longer. She eventually figured it out. It downright sucks for some people.


I don't have a problem with deli meat. if it is cheaper and more convenient for you, there are some good quality deli meats to be had out there.


(If Greg A. Eva T, Rob M. and Nicole are alright eating some processed meats, I am gonna say that it's a bit nit-picky to eliminate it completely.)

I just noticed you ate 8 meals that day! To me that seems high, as the zone seems to recommend eating 5 to fill your blocks. I think you might get better satiation if you distributed the blocks you just described into 5 slightly larger meals than the 8 tiny ones you ate yesterday. At some points you were eating a "meal" every hour. Try consolidating a little. I'm eating 20 blocks a day at the moment and I split it into 5, 4-block meals. I really don't have any hunger problems after doing it that way (I'm 6'5, 230 lbs with 10% BF).
