Tim's Journal

Hi All,

I'm brand new to Crossfit: 31 year old male, 6'2", 240 lbs, sorely out of shape. Looking forward to: gaining some cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination and accuracy (not necessarily in that order), probably losing 40 pounds and having fun.

In the past weeks, I have tried some of the WODs (scaled way back), and have thought I was going to die. I guess that's how I know I'm on to something good.

Today's workout:

Warm-up: 2 x: Stretch, 15 overhead squats w/8 lb. foam bar, 15 sit-ups, 15 push-ups, 15 back extensions, 15 dips (gravitron assist at 150 - weak!)

2X: run 400 meters (treadmill at 8 mph); 40 lb. kettleball swings (21x); 6 jumping pull-ups (can't even get forehead to the bar, but I did do slow negatives on the way down, at least); 15 Gravitron pull-ups (170 lb. assist - weak!).

5 minutes laying on the floor in a cold sweat, feeling the resonance of General Patton's comments about the "weak body", and wondering how a visit from Pukey would go over in my gym. (My gym is in a downtown Chicago high-rise office building, restricted to people that work in the building; full of investment bankers and lawyers. It's kind-of Globo-style, but at least they have a kettleball!)

I'm looking forward to someday feeling like I belong in the Crossfit community, after hours and hours and hours of sweat. I'm thankful this place exists.

Starting the zone diet tonight...
