Re: fastest 50 burpees

My 100 PR is 4:55, but my 50 is 2:40 or something. (Haven't measured my 50 in ages.) I do chest hits the deck, clap overhead while jumping with body straight vertical. Or at least I think I do. My workout partner checks and doesn't count reps which he deems not good enough.

Re: fastest 50 burpees

My best 50 is 2:30 dead. Best 100 is about 7:40ish off the top of my head.

Re: fastest 50 burpees

3:12 and i feel like i go chest to deck, get my heels under me before the jump, and raise my hands over my head. my jump is real but not especially high... especially as the reps add up.

i feel like my burpees are "legit," and i know they're better than some of the stuff i've seen in random videos -- but i have huge respect for those who hit a target or do things like burpee pull-ups. and i'm amazed at those who manage to do 50 strict burpees in the low-2s.

People start jumping less and less and even the clapping method they don't usually stand up straight. You gotta force people to standards by introducing a target height to make.
At the Southwest Regionals for the "Floater" WOD, the athletes had to perform burpees while jumping to the side over a small hurdle (maybe 2-3 inches tall). That seemed to work well as it's difficult to measure out targets of varying heights in a massive competitions like that one...as long as the hurdle is small enough no one should really complain about it favoring a specific body type.

Christer Idland from our gym did 50 burpees in 1:56

Re: fastest 50 burpees

I just broke my record by ten seconds today - 2:20. Came close to rivalling Fran for pain...

Do you think there's something easier about touching a target with one hand as compared to two (see the OPT video). I mean. Not taking away from his effort, obviously it's still gonna suck but something about getting both arms up there (I.e.: the standard clap) amplifies the suck. Or maybe it's just me.

I like the standard of jumping over a small hurdle (height)...2-8 inches or so...

Re: fastest 50 burpees

Random idea: burpees while holding jump rope, one skip at top of each rep. Tape handles (small/thin ones ideally) to hands or tie to wrists, etc. if grip is an issue. Obviously adds some other dimension that would probably slow people down, but pretty standardized at least.

We did some of those at the gym the other day, with a horizontal jump over a sandbag. I couldn't really figure out how to jump over the sandbag and right into the next burpee. It ****s with your cyclic rate and makes them harder IMO.
