It also doesn't recommend a lot of egg yolks. I guess if your not worried about heart diseases, than there is no fear in going on paleo. Something to think about I guess.
There's a lot of good evidence to support the DASH Diet and that's hardly surprising as it has a lot in common with the Mediterranean diet which as I'm sure you know has many well documented health benefits (link). Another diet you may want to consider is the "Mediterrasian Diet" which combines the Mediterranean diet with the Asian diet which also has many well documented health benefits.

Re: dash diet

It does seem like it includes too many servings of grains, and I wouldn't see the harm in having nuts/seeds every day instead of only 4-5 servings per week, but other than that it seems fine.

Re: dash diet

Mary, anything that is from the US FDA on nutritional advice is suspect in my opinion. There is so much lobbying from food lobbies to avoid telling people to restrict sugar intake that it's disturbing.

Here is a brief interesting article on sugar if you are interested. And regarding grains, check out the documentary Food Inc for a bit of context around some large food lobbies.

Re: dash diet

Cordain's The Paleo Diet does recommends the majority of your fat comes in the form of monounsaturates. (WFS)

Are we really saying that the average American is obese because they follow a DASH style diet. I don't see donuts, super size fries or grande caramel frappucinos being recommended by the DASH people.

Am I missing something or is this just the USDA dietary guidelines repackaged?
