that's great that your back at it again!

good job on doing fran. i guess there is no better way to test the knees then by doing thrusters.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Ted,

Thank you! Aside from just a little P-Chain soreness, knees/legs feel pretty good. Great job yourself and a solid finish to the challenge!

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Looked up the Phat Fran I did on March 12, 2004: as Rx on March 7, 2004 to see what my time was and realized it was

15-12 & 9 reps of:
135# Thrusters and
45# weighted pullups, by rounds=8:52/ 15:57/ & 21:17.6 Total

I'm thinking on the wiser side of attempting 21-15-9, I wish I'd looked this up Wednesday, I would've attempted it then, so I am going to try this Monday or so, after the competition is complete.

While I was looking for that historical data I looked up the CFJ Article from March 2005 about messing with Fran, in the article Greg Admundson's 2:46 Fran calculates to a power output of 323 ft-lb/sec.

Since I'm 6'0" & 205 lbs (just like Greg!), it's an easy calculation to compare my humble performance....and I don't recommend this unless your ego needs a serious taking down....is a mere 157 ft-lb/sec. I can't imagine the pain he must feel at that level of output.

PS - any skeptic out there with a slide rule 2nd checking my calculation and coming up with a lower number than I did, please keep it to yourself. I've had enough disappointment for one day. Similar height and weight are the beginning AND the end of my comparing myself to Mr A.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

I did 50 reps with the bar today. I'm new to crossfit so my coach taught me the motion and then asked me to either do Fran or Jackie. I chose jackie, that was the hardest WOD I have done yet. I am pretty out of shape and got 10:00 first time ever trying it.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

135# x 17+4 = 21, just couldn't gut it out unbroken. The challenge is over, long live the challenge!

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

Nice, the first time I did Jackie, I laughed at 45 bar only thrusters. They sucked. Nice time.

How about the August Challenge? I didn't see a thread for it yet.

Re: July: 'thruster' challenge

I really wish i would have started following this site more last month. I would have loved to get on this challenge.

Thrusters are my favorite crossfit exercise.
