Kipping
During Cindy today I realized that I all of a sudden could kip lol. Wondering if anyone ever had experience when going into the workout you think what you used to not be able to do would be the hard part and it ends up being the easiest? happened today. lol

Re: Kipping
I actually accidentally kipped after my first cindy a month ago.
Stringing them together is still a problem for me though. I also started butterflying yesterday, again keeping a cadence in my problem. Also grip. |

Re: Kipping
I definitely did that yesterday too. Though it is still hard to do and especially link them together. Not to mention that I tore off my callus.

Re: Kipping
anybody do their pull-ups on the ergonomic grips (wide, neutral, reverse) as opposed to a straight bar? i suck at stringing together kipping pullups anyway, but i cant help but think these stupid grips are affecting my pull-ups somehow.

Re: Kipping
I struggled with the conventional kip for months often reverted back to a frog kick type kip which I think I saw Annie do in an early WOD video. I watched the Jason "Rhabdo" video while I was deployed and almost immediately I was better at the butterfly than the regular kip. Some people have actually said that my kip is actually kind of hybrid of the two. I don't know what that's all about but at least my pull-up #'s are going up.

Re: Kipping
My kips have gotten to where I can string four or five together. Only at the pullup bars down the street at the army base though. The one here at the Air Force gym is too close to the wall. Most of the time I spend as much time explaining that kipping is not cheating as I do actually doing pullups. I gotta get off base.

Re: Kipping
After 7 months of CF, I just got my kip. It seems to have come out of nowhere. I tell everyone that, prior to getting the kip, my attempts to kip were actually "swinging deadhangs"!
I can only string together about 5 or 6, so I'm now working on getting that number up. Coincidentally, I was surprised to find out that I can also do a HSPU (back-to-wall). ![]() |

Quote:
Pull ups in general are easier on straight bars, insofar as they let you assume your natural grip width, not some predermined "ergonomic" distance. Kipping successfully is all about coordinating your core swing with the pulling motion. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) "trick" to successfully string together successive kips is to remember to PUSH BACK from the bar on the descent, which resets your swing at the bottom. chris o |
