What goals should I have with Tabatas?

I didn't have any bjj practice today so I did some tabatas at home + some chins and some handstand pushups.

I did 2 sets of tabats, 1 with pushups and 1 with squats.
I wonder what my goals to aim for should be with those.
I did 20 pushups on every round(160 total) and 18 squats(144 total).
How many more should I be able to get in like 3 months and 1 year?
How many can you do in 8 ronds?

Yeah, but don't forget he didn't have the pullup tabata right before that. Twenty pushups is still pretty impressive.

Those are nice numbers. I'll answer your question in general: Your goal is to get as many reps in good form for each set/round. There are a couple of styles of Tabata. Most recently the WOD was "Tabata Something Else". That was counting of your total score. You go all out, while maintaining good form. The other Tabata is just "Tabata". Your lowest score is your score. Some people pace themselves in that one to maintain doable numbers for each set/round. Both are valuable. Your goal is always to beat your best score in each style of Tabata. Keep records.

Push ups: not 20 per round for 8 rounds, that's pretty boss

20 strict, honest pushups in a 20 second round for 8 rounds?

Makes me want to go say hi to pukie just trying to fathom it. Nice work, assuming your form is legit.

Re: What goals should I have with Tabatas?

I just started CF, and am in no where near the shape of most here. I am fortunate to get 40 PU during tabata something else. After round 4 I am pretty much spent. But I am one month into it and plan on blowing that away by years end.

First, congrats. This are impressive numbers. Second, you're not following Tabata protocol because, if you were, your numbers would take a nose dive.

The Tabata workouts in CrossFit are interval workouts, not true Tabata intervals. In CF workouts, you try to maintain consistent numbers over multiple rounds as a test of your fitness. Under the Tabata protocol, which is designed to make you better, you go balls-out each round. If you do them properly, it is physically impossible to remain consistent in pushups over 8 rounds (though you can get closer in squats).

The graph should be similar to this:

Re: What goals should I have with Tabatas?

Okay I saw a guy doing tabatas on youtube and his goal was 20 and he did 20 under 20 seconds and therefor got extra rest time so I did that.

If I'm going to go as many I can do in every round the first rounds I will get quite much more than 20 pushups (I can do 120 strict in a row)
