you don't think that person would stand a good shot at qualifying for the games?
I didn't say that.

thats just 5 arbitrary movements, but I think you complicate stuff too much.
I didn't say anything complicated at all.

I think dedication to improving at something and solid programming with the goal of improving in that aspect of fitness holds a lot more value than you might think.
I think these types of internet discussions, where someone arbitrarily and artificially limits the number of exercises, have been around forever and remain as pointless as ever.

Re: Elite Fitness with 5 rules...

If I had a barbell and plates to do one barbell movement...why would I not do the rest? Why would I only limit myself with KB movements?

I'm already way past 5 movements

If you had to develop elite fitness but you could only use 5 exercises/movements, what would you pick?

Re: Elite Fitness with 5 rules...

I'll play the game. My 5:
Clean and Jerk (rather its power clean or squat clean, it's one move)
Back Squat
Incline Bench Press
Running (all variations of: 5k, 10k, 40 yard sprint, ladder drill, 5/10/5, cone drill, 100 yard dash, intervals, hurddles, etc)
Prowler sled (push it, pull it with a harness forwards or backwards, heavy, light, pull it with a 60ft rope attached to it to you, etc)

As for 5 moves and only 5 moves, I seem to recall some pretty high level guys that only did:
Snatch
Power Snatch
Clean and Jerk
Power Clean
Front Squat
