Re: Biceps?

Actually, I am glad this old thread was brought up so I could read this:

Re: Biceps?

Here is an opinion of a Hardcore Bodybuilder guru (285 lb BW), I am not quoting but very close: "guys, ... if your bicpes is not 50 cm before you sign for your pro card chances are it will never be, you just did not get right genetics from you mom and dad, blame short muslce structure... for all of you whyning that there there is not enough biceps exercises in the program, weighted pull-ups, bent rows, etc... is the answer. You won't build huge arms by doing biceps curls, to build monster arms you have to move monster loads and you just can't do that with any type of curls... I am not saying do not do curls, but they are not that important in size building program..."
That's opinion of the guy who had to work his @$$ off to build his 50 cm arms.

Re: Biceps?

That's cool. But I don't think anyone here is advocating replacing any of those movements with curls nor do I believe (but I could be wrong) the original poster was asking how he could build tEh massive "50cm" Gunzzz!! I think he was asking if they would be a good supplemental exercise to help him improve other movements. In which case the answer so far seems to be...yeah maybe.

Re: Biceps?

I actually tried to do curls the other day in the gym but quit after the first set because I found them so boring! Remaining stationary except for flexing at the elbow joint is just not my idea of fun. Give me pullups any day.

Re: Biceps?

Curls? Don't make me go back there! Pullups have made me so happy! (and ring pullups gave me plenty of size).

Re: Biceps?

my answer was aimed more at poster #2 type... that was a thread on BB forum where people were complaining about not enough biceps work in size building program (the best BB program in my opinion). I just thought if BBuilders do not see much use in doing curl work then for us it is really one of those exercises which do not belong to crossfit. To the original poster I would say do it... if I really liked it I would just do it... I personally have so many other goals and supplemental work to do that becoming strong in biceps curls will never make it on my priority list... but that's just me...

Re: Biceps?

I've found that cross pull-outs and tire flips have done quite a bit for the biceps, which is unfortunate because I'm trying to atrophy my upper arms while building monster forearms.

And if you do a curl to pick up your kid, then you are wrong. If you truly want to live the functional life, here is how you should pick up children:

6-20 pounds (mainly infants): TGU
21-40 pounds (toddlers): one-arm clean (add a jerk if they're ornery)
40+ pounds (children): snatch
