Inspiration For The Skinny Guys

Okay, I figured it was time to post my testimonial if for no other reason than to get all these figures out of my head and onto the interweb. Here goes:

Started CrossFit June of last year... however, I took a few month long break in there because I'm stupid and I've only gotten back into it for the past month solidly. I lost almost all my strength and metcon gains but a lot of it came back quickly in the past 30 days.

First, I started at 6'1", 135 pounds and was eating garbage. I now eat paleo + dairy and am up to 172 and still gaining.

Deadlift 1RM was about 100, now 275

Bench Press 1RM was about 85, now 190

Shoulder Press 1RM was about 65, now 140

Back Squat 1RM was about 95, now 225ish (knee problem kept me from doing this consistently)

My Fran time (with 85 lbs.) went from 8 minutes to sub-4 minutes. I only did the workout those two times, also.

When I began CrossFit, I could do 1, MAYBE 2 dead hang pullups. I can now do about 15 deadhangs and 30+ kipping.

My first 30 MUs for time took me 28 minutes... just a few days after getting my first ring MU. My second time was down to 12 minutes.

I feel I should also mention that I am still making linear gains on all my strength lifts. I quit smoking August 2009 so my lung capacity is still growing as well as my lungs struggle to heal themselves.

CrossFit changed my life in soooo many ways.

Great job! As a skinny guy, it's cool to know how much progress you have made just by doing CF. When you say linear gains, do you mean that you are doing SS?

Awesome work. It seems like Paleo + milk is the way to go. Where most the weight gains lean?

I wouldn't really call it SS. I just make sure to squat (front or back), shoulder press, deadlift and bench one day a week.

Bryan, yes, most of the gains were in lean muscle. I put on some fat, of course... that would be impossible to avoid but I am 100% satisfied with the changes in my body composition.

Before/after pictures?
How are you doing your WODS? Are you doing more cfsb or just a regular met-con with the beginner maxing out on one movement?

Jamie, I know you wanna see 'em. I'll just PM 'em to you.

Craig, I go to an affiliate 3 times a week and do whatever he tells me to do. It's usually a warmup, strength work, metcon then a stretching session. Aside from that, I do other strength work 2 or 3 times a week, completely depending on my level of soreness and how I am generally feeling.

Note: I deadlifted 300 the other day. Finally!

Re: Inspiration For The Skinny Guys

Ok, what about skinny chicks? I am 5 7 about 115 and I am about to start Paleo. Is Paleo + dairy the way to go in order for us to gain muscle? Everything I read seems to be geared toward losing fat and I'm not sure that I have that much to lose. In the past, the trainers at the globos would tell me to cut down on my "cardio". I played indoor soccer 3-4 times a week and it was the only thing keeping me sane, so I ignored them. So, here I am, still skinny, confused and frustrated.
