Handstand Push Ups - yesterday

One of the trainers in my gym laughed a little while I was doing handstand push ups yesterday. He asked me who my trainer was and said I should just be doing regular push ups. Just a note: It's a small gym, and he sees me in there all the time doing CF and other workouts.

Any thoughts on this comment? I am a smaller female doing scaled workouts and the like -- but I can do a few handstand push ups (against the wall, of course)!

PS I understand that shoulder press would be the sub for HSPU (not reg PU) - more interested in the fact that he kinda laughed at the WO, etc...
Thanks!

The trainer laughed a little because you were doing something that he could not do.

Ignore him.

It is great that you can do HSPUs.

Tell him Pukie is your trainer and invite him to do Diane.

Congrats on the HSPUs. I'll bet money he tried a few when you left.

If he laughs and writes you off as an idiot now, then you will simply become fit and he won't. That or he can listen and everybody wins. You're fine either way, I wouldn't consider it an issue unless he starts prohibiting you from the HSPU's.

As much fun as it can be to a smart aleck, I would simply state the facts that it is your dabbling into gymnastics. That being said, that gymnastics is the oldest form of structured calesthenics.

If however, he gets smug, challenge him and laugh when he falls on his nose because he doesn't know how to roll out. Be sure to say something along the lines of " Nice job, Paul Hamm! "

Something along the lines, that batwoman/girl does them or Jackie Chan, etc, etc would work too.

Alex,

Don't let knuckle-heads shake you. YOU know the benefits of the HSPU, great strength, balance, body awareness, mental toughness...and you know that CF bottom line WORKS.

Maybe next time you can put your response in his "isolationist" terms...tell him it's your "Shoulder/Back" day and not your "Chest/Arms" day.

Now that's funny!

On another note, you should feel lucky you can do HSPU at the gym. The gym's I've been to have been so polluted with machines that there isn't a single foot of empty wall space.

Re: Handstand Push Ups - yesterday

In my Gym I need to take some pretty pictures off the wall in order to have a spot to do HSPU's. I'm pretty sure when I get caught i'm gonna be in trouble.

Do NOT let the trainer guy get in your head. I think it is amazing you are able to do HSPU's. Keep at it and like the guys said telling them you are doing Gymnastics training should get em off your case.

Alex,
We call them mirror chickens. They walk around, look cool, do some flys, grunt, hit on girls, practice the Captain Morgan.

Basically there are two approaches:

1: Ignore him. You do your thing. He will do his. You are the Lion, he is the sheep.

2. Try to educate him. I find it best to give them the website info.

To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.
