Paleo diet/Cholesterol question

I just got my blood panel results after eating pretty strict Paleo for 8 weeks, though I'd eaten Primal (included dairy) for the past couple years. Question: should I be concerned that my total cholesterol is over 200? I eat 2-3 eggs for breakfast every day and lots of grassfed beef each week. I am a 5'3" 53 year old female.
Total Cholesterol: 211
HDL: 106
LDL: 100
Triglycerides: 22
Glucose: 83

Re: Paleo diet/Cholesterol question

No. In the grand scheme of things the total doesn't mean much.

Your LDLs are near-optimal, your HDLs are high (good), and your trigs are absurdly low. Glucose is fine.

Why is it suggested that the total be under 200? If your LDL's are low and HDL is good, why would it matter? I don't get the recommendation in that article.

Re: Paleo diet/Cholesterol question

Thanks! I haven't seen my doctor yet. I had the bloodwork done a couple weeks in advance of my physical. Will be seeing my doctor next week.

Dunno, probably because it assumes the average Americans would have a much different ratio of HDL to LDL as Martha does. Her HDLs are much higher than your standard fat unhealthy westerner.

The total:HDL ratio is important but generally speaking the lower your total cholesterol the lower your risk of CVD. Get your total-c below 150 mg/dl or better still 130 mg/dl and you don't need to worry about the ratio, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, particle size or anything else really because your risk of developing CVD would be practically nil.

Re: Paleo diet/Cholesterol question

Darryl, thanks for your post. I read the entire transcript and it was very reassuring. If you read it all you'll find that the two most important factors in avoiding heart attack, according to this study, are total cholesterol to HDL ratio (should be below 3.5; mine is 2) and triglycerides (should be below 60; mine are 22).
