Thinking of not doing mainsite workouts!

What are the pros/cons of not doing the WOD and choosing a WOD from different crossfit website. Is there a method to the workouts in a series? I was thinking "putting in the work" is the main objective,So it wouldn't hurt to much to go off the mainsite workouts.

Re: Thinking of not doing mainsite workouts!

What are your goals?

If you have a goal more specific than "get in shape," you should probably follow programming that's aligned with that goal.

If you want generalized programming, then the mainsite is not a bad choice, although if you're new for goodness sake find the BrandX page and scale the workouts.

Re: Thinking of not doing mainsite workouts!

What are your goals and where are you currently in relation to them?

Your goals determine what kind of program you should follow. CF.com may or may not be the best option for you. Just "putting in work" won't accomplish much if the work is done aimlessly or randomly.

Unless you've got lots of training knowledge and experience, you're probably better off following an established program rather than picking and choosing or making stuff up on your own.

Thanks, those a both great points. I am looking to lean up or loose weight. I was going to choose workouts that our more cardio related workouts and not as much heavy weights.

this.

also, cutting out strength work to focus entirely on "cardio" -- i put that in quotes because strength work can leave you trying to catch your breath in a pool of sweat, too -- would be a mistake.

Re: Thinking of not doing mainsite workouts!

I was actually wondering the same question. I decided to start doing things in phases based on my weaknesses that were exploited through the benchmark workouts. For example I cannot deadlift 225 more then a few time and my other lifts are under average so thats the area of focus at the current moment.

Why?

If you consider the weights used in most mainpage metcons "heavy," then getting stronger would probably be a good idea.

I would suggest CFSB or Crossfit Football.

If you want to lose fat, you need to lift heavy stuff, as well as do cardio. Stop lifting weights, and you'll just slow your progress.

Re: Thinking of not doing mainsite workouts!

Not that this is related, but they've done the last three workouts at the Games for the past three days. Is this really intelligent programming to be following? A 3-min AMRAP, 6-min AMRAP, then for time of the same workout on three consecutive days?

If I was doing mainsite, I'd be looking elsewhere.
