Personal playlist for CrossFit

I'm very new to CF. Been at it 4 weeks now. The music that is played during the workout is okay, but I have some stuff I listen to that works for me tons better. Is it taboo to have your own music going with an iPod and earbuds? Does the iPod get in the way too much for CF? Is there a type of "new" music headgear that works with CF?

Re: Personal playlist for CrossFit

I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it if I were coaching the class, but I would want to make sure you could hear all the instruction and demos before the wod started. Depending on the workout the headphones and cords might get in the way, but I'm sure you could work around that.

Another solution would be to ask the coach to put in your iPod - most people are pretty open to listening to something different.

Re: Personal playlist for CrossFit

I use wireless headphones for an ipod shuffle (wfs)
http://www.shinyshiny.tv/2007/06/monster_ifreepl.html

Best buy had em a while ago for like 20 bucks (of course you need the ipod shuffle). There are variations I have not tried.

...these headphones have their limitations, as they bounce during double unders cause they're relatively heavy. They also fly off the back of my head when Im snatching too, cause my turn around & pull under is so damn fast.

Ear buds always fall out of my ears, and wires always get in the way. Yes, people deal with wires AND ear buds, but I often see people give up mid wod, and put em down.

Re: Personal playlist for CrossFit

I've got an old Ipod Nano (the smaller ones) I use with standard Apple ear buds. I clip it on to my belt behind me so it stays out of the way. I've never had any issues during workouts with it getting in the way. I run the earbud cord up through my shirt so it's not dangling. The box I drop in at doesn't normally care if I wear them, however I don't need much individual attention from coaches.

Thanks! I have a tiny Ipod shuffle, just don't know about the aggravation of the buds.

Personally I dont like having anything in my ears as I often find that cords just get in the way and every time that I am jumping or I have the bar sitting near my throat then it tends to pull the cords. So I just find it easier to zone out and start counting

For the ipod Nano I use a sport band holder that I put on my arm and then string the ear buds under my shirt up my sleeve and through the head opening and pull the extra cord in to the shirt. Works well keeps it outta my way..

Re: Personal playlist for CrossFit

Thanks all. Is there an ear bud or an earpiece that stays on/in the ear better than others?

Got these a month ago on a Woot special. Works very well for crossfit. Great sound and have a great fit.

I'm not sure you'll need exactly these, but this style stays in the ear very well.

Completely agree. It would also depend on what they are looking to hear and how big the class is. I had a client put on screaming death metal music and other clients were not so thrilled lol
