Depends on your definition of circuit training. As compared to traditional circuits that I see people do:

- Use of functional movements to generate higher intensity.
- Scoring the WODs in ways that can be compared to other people/Competition.
- Task oriented fitness (your workout is to accomplish a task, as fast as possible, rest up to you).
- Constantly varied.
- Way cooler.

And the most obvious, the parts where they don't do circuit training.

Like ME days, repeated 400 m runs with breaks, and so on.

Re: What ia circuit training? and whats different from CF?

there is little difference on paper, the difference is when you do them.

that was also my reaction on seeing CF for the first time.

basically a typical circuit might be: 10 reps of
bench press
bent over row
dumbell squat
shoulder press
dumbell lunge

(i jest with the squat and lunge slightly)
that is the sort of circuit you'd do followed by a 1-2 minute rest.

if it were a CF wod it would be 5 rounds for for time. so no rest.
when they ask the question again tell them to go do the workout with minimal rest and time themselves.
then ask how they feel an hour later and again in the morning

The worst thing I ever heard was when I was trying to explain CrossFit to a girl I know. I was trying to keep it simple, and explain it in a way that she could understand. I think I threw in some terms like full body movements, high pace, etc... And she said "Oh, like Curves?" I'm pretty sure she was just doing it to make me mad, though.

Crossfit uses circuits frequently. This does not mean that Crossfit is circuit training.

In the same way that soccer uses running frequently, but soccer is not running.
