I always tell friends and clients just getting started on the zone to invest in some Tupperware and a cooler. Preparation is key to staying on track.

thank you, lauren. i will check out the link. we also have a ton of tupperware as i pack my husband's lunch daily.

also checked out the journal and downloaded the article. you know, there are people who say this is hard to follow. i planned the day's meals in like 10 minutes because the guides make it so easy. i can see that measuring and prep may take time but if you can plop down on the couch to watch "friends" from 630 to 730pm on KTVU, then why can't you spend that time prepping meals for the next day? :stir:

this is gonna be badass

Re: so let me get this straight...the zone

ok, so end of day 1 on the zone and boy am i full!!! i swear i look 5 months pregnant.

i think the only time i felt hungry was after breakfast, which was a shake. hm. tweaking there i suppose.

it's cool. now i just need to go grocery shopping again so i can get zone friendly food. trying to go with no breads and pastas for the first three weeks per nicole. i also didn't have coffee this morning. hahaha. that's huge for me. didn't get a headache either. cool.

Re: so let me get this straight...the zone

I think a lot of the confusion that some have with the Zone is that they tend to go off of the block charts AND off of the nutrition labels. If you try to plan your blocks based off of nutrition labels, you just might go crazy. Important thing to remember is you typically count the most dominant macronutrient in an item of food.

Perfect example is the almighty EGG. Lots of protein. Also lots of fat. Should we count it as 1 block protein and 1 block fat? Why is it just a protein block if there's also 5g fat? *head explodes*

The good thing is, though, that luckily for us, fat isn't quite as important to the Zone as the protein and carbs are. So provided that you're having confusion between protein/fat or carb/fat, you can probably just discount the fat, as it has little to no effect on insulin.

For these reasons alone, I tried to stick to as close to a Paleo Zone diet as possible. This helps me avoid all of the nutrition labels and extra junk, and saves a lot of headache. Sears' "recommended" foods are mostly Paleo anyways, even though you can technically eat anything.

If you're doing fine the way it is now, then don't sweat it. If you have troubles like I did though, exploring Paleo can do nothing but benefit you overall. Alas I don't do Zone anymore because my schedule precluded me from really getting enough time to plan and prepare my meals in advance.

Re: so let me get this straight...the zone

so far no problems. just trying to stay to the "ideal" zone foods and not the ones they let you slide by with. well, for now anyway until i get used to the zone. i'm trying to convince my mother-in-law to get in on the action since she's diabetic, high blood, gout, etc. but she's too attached to her rice and pasta and all the things she shouldn't eat. poo. i think the zone would do her a lot of good.

thanks for all the posts, i really appreciate them.

Re: so let me get this straight...the zone

so this morning i was wondering why i felt a little hungry only a couple hours after yesterday's breakfast. then i had an "ah ha!" moment. in my shake, i didn't take in to consideration that the milk and the yogurt counted for one block of protein AND one block of carbs. duh. so i took out the oatmeal for a balanced 3 blocker.

1/4c cottage cheese, 1/4c yogurt, 1c milk, 9 almonds, 1c strawberries: 3 block meal

now let's see how i feel in a few hours...

did you mean to say 1/4 c yogurt is a block of each C, F, P; because i've been using 4oz which is twice what you use for a 1 block?

Re: so let me get this straight...the zone

mastering the zone says 1/2c plain yogurt is one block protein and one block carb. i think i meant to put 1/2 instead of 1/4c.
