Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

Any advice as to purchasing Olympic lifting sneakers, and where to get them?
I am interested in purchasing a pair of Olympic lifting sneakers and am looking for a place to get them at a reasonable price and any tips for purchasing them online. There are no stores locally that sell them so I'll be purchasing them online without trying them on. The sites that sell them, list them only in 1 size range, leading me to think it is a male's size range. Should I order 1/2 size down for equivilant of a female's size?

Lisa;
I have these, very basic. Will upgrade once I'm worthy.

2x what Jay said.

I like my VS shoes. Not too pretty but get the job done very well.
No comparison to squatting and doing olympic lifting in regular shoes.

Re: Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

Lisa - I had the Suede Do-Wins from WFW. They were $99.

http://store.wfwclub.com/index.html (wf safe)

I wear an 8.5-9 women's shoe and ordered the 39's (men's 6.5). They were a tad too small (but the 40s were too big). Anyway, decent shoe - but again a bit tight on me and the bottoms started to peel off.

Recently, I purchased a pair of Adistars off the USA Weightlifting site...$125. Got the men's size 7. They fit me really well.

If you are not wanted to spend a ton...look into a pair of Vans or Chuck T's.

Re: Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

Hey all~
Thanks for the info. I looked into the VS brand & was leary of the price difference to the Adistars, would the VS be "cheaply made" and wear out too soon. I'm all for paying more for better quality and durability in the long run.
I heard about getting chuck T's too or Adidas Samba, indoor soccor sneaker. I think I'll fo with the Adistars. I wear a women's 10, so should I get the men's 41?
p.s. nice "buttah" Jay

Re: Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

Lisa - before you spend a bundle on the adistars...how often will you be lifting? The VS and the Do-Wins are both good shoes. I got the adistars for two reasons...I lift three times weekly as well as use them during XF lifting days (participated in a comp in Aug and will do another in the spring) and I wanted a really good fit (one that was stiff, but also flexible). The Do-wins did not fit me well. They have a really wide box, yet were super snug elsewhere and were really stiff. I'd hate to see you spend $$$ if you did not need to.

Oh, almost forgot to answer your sizing question. My adistars are a size 40...I wear a women's 8.5/9.

Incidentally, the pic of me in my profile (to the left)...I am wearing the Do-Wins during a XF workout a few this past summer.

Re: Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

I have heard that the VS shoes are just an old Do-Win model, like 2001 or 2005 or something. If so, they have history in competitions and whatnot. If/when I get some, I'll probably start with VS.

Re: Olympic lifting shoes Coach B?

Kim,
I would be wearing them every time we do olympic lifts as part of WOD and I am beginning to train with an strength conditioning coach 4x a month just on olympic lifting. I'm getting ready to order shoes after I checked this post and which has lead me to go ahead and get the VS shoes. I'll let you know how they work out once I get them.
Thanks again for the info~

I have a pair of VS Athletics. I have been using them for a year and they show no signs of wear. They are a very good shoe for the money.

Hey Kim & Tim,
I have spent the past hour trying to locate the web site I saw yesterday that sells VS athletic sneakers. Where did you purchase yours?
Thanks~
Lisa
