My right calf has become very tight and tetchy of late. It feels stiff and sore especially if I am inactive for long periods (eg when I wake up in the morning and if I've been sitting at my desk for a while) but eases up a bit if I run.
I'm fairly sure it's linked to the other problems I have (knee, unstable ankle, niggly achilles) which are all down to the configuration of my leg bones (God obviously made me at the end of the shift when he was tired).
Anyway, not much I can do about that, so here's the question. There's a local 10k on Sunday. I've never run a 10k before (in racing terms - I've run that distance and further enough times) and I keep saying I'll do it but things seem to conspire against it. As it's my 40th the following Sunday, I thought it'd be quite a nice way to mark the occassion.
I ran 7.5 miles last Sunday and the legs were fine - calf stiffened up a bit after though. But it was doing the warm up during Thai boxing the following day that really aggravated it.
So, should I risk it, or should I heed my body's cry for help and have a nice relaxing day with the papers instead?

Hi Cal,

I would say have a nice relaxing day with the papers - I usually regret jumping back in too early after an injury. I gather your 10k will be a competitive situation - all the more reason, in my opinion, not to take part if you are injured.

I have a calf strain that won't go away - is there anything one can do about it besides rest?
