Re: Open WoD 11.5......and 6?

I'm also disappointed by no pure strength workouts. Pure endurance components were impractical, but pure strength was not.

Is this what the CF games are going to be from now on? Just a "who's the best at CF style metcons" contest? I thought perhaps last years games, with just one poor test of pure strength, might be a fluke, and that this year they would get back to having some pure exhibitions of strength. So far, it doesn't look that way.

CF is a methodology that was built, in part, around the idea of preparing oneself for an infinite number of tasks (the hopper model), many of which DON'T mix modalities. Has HQ decided that these single modalities aren't important enough to be individually tested at all?

The first CF games which was a CrossFit Total, a 5k, and a metcon. It acknowledged that being prepared for anything means excelling at lone tasks, not just high intensity movements scrambled together. A similar point can be made regarding the work capacity model, about how the 1 sec to 3 min time domain and the >20 minute time domain is getting dropped. Often those time domains are important.

Now, I could still be surprised by what comes down the pipe. Maybe there will be a half marathon and then later a max deadlift & floor press event. But I doubt there will be.

P.S. Also, if we want people from outside our community to start respecting our contest as one of the best for overall fitness we can't just limit the events to things that only we specialize in. Runners will respect running. Lifters will respect lifting. They won't respect fran.

Hopefully next year is improved...I just wish HQ would stop changing the format every year...so we can improve on specific things.

word. amen. right on. etc.

6 tests of moving fairly light things combined with bodyweight work doesn't make for a very diverse contest. CF is becoming mostly about the sexy metcon.

B-b-but what if that 110/165 lb C&J and that 100/145 lb power clean was more than your m-m-max?

Can you hear me crying about it?

Just watched the Speal/Khalipa 11.6 five minute test video... holy cow!

Spealler got 127 reps - through the round of 18 +1 Thruster.

And that was within a 5 minute time cap! Wonder what they will get with the extra two minutes.

Name one person who won't make it through the Open who could win the Games.

Except that the CF Games winner is very unlikely to have a run time that will impress a runner (at any distance) or a max lift that will impress a lifter (in any event), and certainly not both. The ability to mix modalities is what *defines* "elite" for Crossfitters.
