mid/lower back pain doing squats

I've just increased my weight on squats and it is killing my back .. does this mean i have bad form?? About halfway through my set I start to feel the tension in my mid/lower back .. I'm kind of worried I might have injured myself but don't feel any pain other than when i am doing squats. At the end of the set I'm working my back more than my legs .. I'm very new to cf and have just been doing general stregnth training at my gym so have not been one on one with a trainer except in a class setting but they don't have any concrete answers for me??! So annoying ..

Get a vid up in the digital coaching forum. If it's a form problem they can spot it and tell you what to correct.

If your form is good by analysis via video, then we can start looking at other problems.

Re: mid/lower back pain doing squats

There could be a lot of reasons why your lower back is hurting: balance, lower back strength, knee movement, bar position, etc. If you have a workout buddy, have them take a look at your squat. Or if your gym has personal trainers, it might be worth the cost of a single session to have someone take a look at your form.

Check your form in a mirror. You mentioned that you just increased the weight; do a set of light squats before the heavy squats just to make sure that your form is correct. If the form feels right, but your back hurts, you may need to increase your lower back strength. Good mornings are a good exercise for that.

Keep us informed.

Looks like it may mostly be form issues which is a GOOD thing. You don't want injuries.
