Advantage of a partner in ring training.

The past few weeks I've had a partner 3 times per week to train on the rings with. Besides having company I have found it very beneficial to have a handspoter around for every exercise.

For example, we were doing beginer ring routines ie..

1.Muscle up
2.Back roll to inverted hang
3.Back lever spoted, 5 second hold
4.Front Lever spotted 5 second hold
5. 3x #3 + #4
6. skin the cat

Normally I'd be forced to do this in a tucked position. However; having him around I was able to do the exercises with both legs fully extended, body stiff as a board and with perfect form while still struggeling like crazy.

Now my question is this, what's more efficient. Doing the movement in its "hardest" form with a spotter OR doing the movement w/o any type of interference via spotter but reduce the leverage by tucking your legs?
My money's on a spotter being much more efficient, but what do you guys think?

Spotter is almost always better (unless they help you too much). Besides critique on form they can also encourage and spot through tougher moves.

Anyway, for example, assisted cross with a spotter is definitely the best form of work for cross. Block, band and other versions of cross just don't compare.

i find humor in the different roles the spotter plays in gymnastics strength training and in barbell strength training.

In gymnastics, the best way to progress through strength moves is with the help of a spotter. In barbell strength training, having a spotter help you on a single rep means that rep does not count (at least, according to Rip).

A good spotter is invaluable. It allows for variable assistance and really developing a good feel for the skill itself. The companionship and added motivation are great too.

negatives are beneficial sometimes in barbell strength, theyre just not needed as much because of the ease of adding and removing weight.
