Genetic Evidence of Neanderthal/Human Interbreeding

Pretty cool stuff here. I've been hoping for some news about this:

Re: Genetic Evidence of Neanderthal/Human Interbreeding

Agreed- always interesting to see the expansion of knowledge for the history of our species. It's not an earth-shattering discovery, as one of the theories of the "vanishing" of the species was interbreeding.
It will be interesting to see, if this gains traction, what the explanation for the dominance of non-neanderthal traits was. Unless I am mistaken, which I very well could be, wern't Homo s. smaller in both cranial capacity and musculature? At this point in human history we have to start taking cultural evolution into consideration, though, but just wondering what the "takeover" was resultant of, again assuming N. integration into Homo s. Here's hoping some enjoyable reading on the topic gets tossed my way...

Re: Genetic Evidence of Neanderthal/Human Interbreeding

They discuss this in "Born to Run" Author/scientists theorize that as ice receded and landscape was more plains, less forest, and creatures were less slow mammoths and more deer/gazelles, Homo S.'s ability to run gave it an advantage over bigger slower Neands.
Food for thought...

Re: Genetic Evidence of Neanderthal/Human Interbreeding

Born to Run was a great book, read it about a month ago. I liked the argument they made about the change in hunting habits. I've also seen theories about tool techonology, N. despite larger brains didn't develop as advanced tools, but this interbreeding research seems to negate that, as they were clearly in close proximity and could have shared knowledge. Same with the conflict theory- that H. sap literally beat them out of town.
