jump ropes

i know jump ropes are nothing special but my MMA gym has theve really heavy jump ropes they make us use to warm up & at the end of class we use these really light ones to do double unders. anybody know whats the point? also are the ones on rogue any good??

My guess would be that its easier to do double unders with the lighter rope and they have you guys use the heavier ones to help get your muscles warmed up.
