Melissa W's Workout Log (Cue 1980s training montage)

A little background info:

I'm 34yo, 5'4", and I weighed about 153 lbs when I started Crossfit in mid-April 2008. We all know how addictive Crossfit is, so when Crossfit Central launched the "Spartan 300 Challenge" on May 10, I decided to participate. The Spartan 300 Challenge is 16 weeks of 4 workouts a week (or 6, but I am officially doing the 4/wk level) and keeping a Zone food journal. Our coaches took body measurements of us at the beginning of the challenge and have been measuring our progress at checkpoints along the way. We kicked off the challenge with the following WOD and are repeating it at 4 weeks in, then again at 12 wks in, and finally at the 16 wk mark.

"300"
25 pull-ups
50 deadlifts
50 push-ups
50 box jumps
50 floor wipers
50 KB clean & jerks
25 pull-ups
(Given 20min to complete)

First run through on 5/10, got through everything but the last set of pull-ups.

Repeated on 6/7/08, finished workout in 17:09.

Recent lifts and other stuff:

5/14/08
Squats (5-5-5-5-5) highest weight was 100 lbs

6/2/08 - 6/4/08
Crossfit Total (1-1-1) = 375
Squat 150 lbs
Press 65 lbs
Deadlift 160 lbs

6/18/08
Thrusters (3-3-3-3-3-3-3)
55-60-60-60-60-55-55

6/23/08
Thrusters (10-8-6-4-2)
50 lbs

6/25/08
Press (1-1-1-1-1) ended at 65 lbs
Push Press (3-3-3-3-3) ended at 70 lbs
Push Jerk (5-5-5-5-5) ended at 75 lbs

7/7/08 - Last night
Angie (jumping pull-ups, kipping from box; push-ups from knees)
24:59 - by the skin of my teeth!

I was thrilled to not be the last to finish our warm-up run (400m) and one of the few in my class (mostly newish members) to finish Angie within the 25 min we were given. This is a huge improvement from not even being able to run 400m without walking and always being the last one to finish the WOD. It felt great to hear Big Mike telling people to write their last rep completed on the board, and then he said to me, "and you get to write your time on the board."
Woohoo!

And EXCELLENT job on the "300" challenge! You'll cross off those goals in the very near future! Keep us posted!

Hey there...

Our stats are a bit similar (I'm 5'3" and a little bit and 148-150lbs.). Trying to get lean the right way as well...

300 Challenge sounds awesome. I'll be following your progress! You'll definitely hit that deadhang!

Re: Melissa W's Workout Log (Cue 1980s training montage)

Thanks y'all -- it feels nice to be welcomed so warmly. And it does add that extra motivation to know that people are reading about my progress.

Couldn't stand to take the day off yesterday so I went for a nice run/walk on the hike & bike in the evening. At this point I am just trying to get more comfortable running so I didn't stress over how far I was going or my pace. I did throw in a few sprints, anytime I got to a hill. And when I got to the stretching station at Riverside, I couldn't let the opportunity for pull-ups pass me by. I was a bit tired from the previous day's Angie, but I did a few static holds at the top and some negatives. That new standard of chest to the bar is quite challenging!

Also did 50 box jumps onto the park bench, which I measured to be 17-1/2", a modest increase in box height over the ones I use at CC. I wonder if that is the reason that my calves are sore this morning? If so, that's pretty awesome!

Hey Melissa,

My gf and I are trying to get our schedules straight so we can start going to CF Central ASAP, hopefully we can get it straight sooner than later. I want to do the spartan challenge too!

Best,

Awesome! I'm sure I'll see you guys around then. I work out with the M/W 7:15pm class, but I also do as many of the free workouts as possible. Speaking of, I believe there is going to be one under the Mopac bridge at Town Lake this Saturday. Details aren't posted on the Crossfit Central website yet, but the free UTB workouts usually start at 8:30am.

Re: Melissa W's Workout Log (Cue 1980s training montage)

I may end up in the MWF at lunch time if I can pull it off, or more likely Tu/Th at the same time.

I've never been to the free workout, but I think I will try to this weekend.

I think she's having friends in town this weekend for "girls" weekend or something, so maybe I'll trick them into coming - or maybe escape them and go alone!
