Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Hey Micheline! I remember your first thread in the starting section, so I thought that I would check out your log. Couple of thoughts:

When you say "only" there, it seems like you are selling yourself short. Thats a difficult movement for the new to lifting, I think its great that you are doing it with a bit of weight! When you are doing it with 95# in a few months - you can look back and say "only"!

If I am really sore, I will take an extra rest day. (Since I work out Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri only, I get lots of rest). If I go to the gym feeling sore - which is pretty much all of the time! - I get started with a light cardio warm-up (stationary bike, eliptical) to get the blood flowing. Move through a brisk movement oriented warm-up, then hit the WoD.

Hope it works out well for you!

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Hey Milton...a roughriders fan commenting on my log?! Not allowed! Jk

Thanks for the encouragement... I've been told often that I sell myself short lol. I set my standards high- one day I'll reach them

I've already had some success with soreness- you're totally right, it helps to warm up well and get the blood flowing. i went into my version of Barbara feeling pretty sore and creaky but after a good warmup and the WOD I felt a lot better. Then I did a really good stretch and worked out some knots with lacrosse balls and felt amazing afterwards.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Today I was busy and didn't get a workout in- but I don't mind because my back is extremely flared up and I coached Special Olympics curling for 2 hours. Tomorrow is a new day... and I'm not gonna be buying any more bubblegum! Hah

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

This morning was awesome- woke up feeling good and did a scaled version of the WOD "Bulger"...

5 rounds
150m run
7 front squats w/ two 20# dumbells
7 pullups (assisted by gravitron of 50 lbs)
7 shoulder press w/ two 20# dumbells

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Did a little modified Cindy this morning... switched pullups for dips because the gravitron is broken and there aren't any bars/bands at my gym.

20 min amrap: 14 rounds
5 dips
10 pushups
15 squats

And I should mention that when I say pushups, I mean knee pushups

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Just a comment/suggestion, at my box they don't allow knee pushups because they only give a partial ROM so you aren't fully getting the whole benefit of a pushup. Instead we do them at an incline preferably on the rack, but can also be done with your hands on a box, table, bench, etc... at whatever height you can keep your body straight and go all the way down to your chest touching the bar and back up.
It will definitely accelerate your progress to "real" pushups, in less than two months I've already dropped 2 rungs on the rack and getting close to a 3rd.

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Thanks Rebecca! I had never thought of it... just always thought of knee pushups as the next step down. After reading your comment and discussing it with a few others I'll definitely start doing incline instead.

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Today's workout:

3 rounds

20 sumo deadlifts 45# (sumo deadlifts seem to be much easier on my back, yay!)
20 situps w/ hand target on the wall
20 good mornings 15#

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Had to take 2 days off because I was working 12 hour days doing childcare at a conference for work... and man, did I start feeling like crap! Today I had to drag my *** to the gym, totally did not want to do it. But, I did:

21-15-9
KB swings #25 (dumbell)
Front squats #50

No idea what my time was, forgot my stopwatch and ipod since I was in such a lazy daze :P

Re: Micheline's Workout Log

Did a modified "Kelly" this morning and HOLY was it ever brutal.

5 rounds
400m row
30 box jumps (approx 20")
30 barbell thrusters- 2x 15#

Took me a sad, sad 20:18.

I blame my slow time on the fact that I feel like absolute crap this morning. I feel like absolute crap because I've ate nothing but crap the last few days The conference food was greasy at best, and last night was a friend's birthday so of course I had cake. Back to eating clean today and hoping to feel better tomorrow!
