I order my protein in bulk from health food dealers in the states.
http://www.store.honeyvillegrain.com

If you have some friends to split it with you can walk away with a fairly decent amount of stuff for a rather low cost. I got 4lb of casein, 4lb of whey, 5lb of egg whites, and 50lbs of maltodextrin for 180$ Canadian.

If you do order it make sure that you put no commercial value on the shipping info. I got stung 40$ at the border because of this.

As to other supplements. Creatine is the only thing that I could possibly recommend taking (personally haven't used it for a year now, but I am contemplating it), and if you get creatine monohydrate you should be able to get 1000g for 30$. Since you don't need a loading phase and only really need 5g a day you should be golden with that.

Ian... making your own protein shake blend seems like a great idea!

SND Canada has pretty good prices and the shipping is very fast.

Check out ETS from At Large Nutrition for your joint pain. By far one of the best supplements on the market. Good for joints, recovery, and endurance.

The reason I don't like SND is because it is the exact same premade stuff that I try and avoid. I find I can get far more quantity of quality protein (pure whey and casein (not to mention egg whites) without added flavor/sugar)from health food providers.

An easier way to do this is to check out your local health food store and see if they can order you in a bulk quantity of egg whites and protein concentrate/isolate. This leaves you without the casein...but hey maybe they can get that as well.

What you put it, consitensy and taste.

I do one banana, some spinach, some flax oil/ oats (depending on whether it is a fat or carb meal), two scoops of egg whites, one scoop of casein, two scoops of whey and some skim milk... amazing stuff...
