Help for my lady friend

Hey everyone,

So I am pretty in tune with my diet, but I am looking for some help from the ladies for my ladyfriend's diet. She went Paleo/zone a little over three weeks ago. She has stayed the same weight over that time and I am looking for some help to tweak her diet. Here are the stats:

5' 7'' tall
145lbs
25-30% Bodyfat
Blox - 12 ( I calced it with her but can't remember her exact BF)
She is probably eating too much fruit.
She is only sleeping 6 hours most night (super busy schedule, I know this is a huge determiner)
She is feeling very full after each meal.
She just started crossfitting and will probably do 2-3 times a week.
She has a very high stress job.
She is on birth control (how big an effect would this have?)

She hasn't lost any weight since starting, and she has only cheated twice in that time, and both were minor cheats.

Anyway do you have any suggestions? Things that aren't going to change would be sleep, the job, and amount of time crossfitting.

Also, I know that this is within a short period of time, but I also lost like 10lbs in the first two weeks. Anyway, all suggestions would be helpful. Especially from women who have had some success losing weight/gaining muscle.

Thanks,
Nick

I suggest, fitday log.

every morsel that passes the lips, all is weighed and logged. Cheats too.

i think two weeks of doing this strictly should yield some answers....

just my 2c

I second the motion for tracking her intake. Paleo food choices are great, but without some idea of quantities, there isn't a way to tell what is working for her now and down the road.

For me, eating Paleo makes it easier to lose weight. But I am perfectly capable of overeating Paleo and putting on both muscle and fat.

ok so maybe I wasn't clear. She zones everything to the nth degree. She has it all measured in bags. No problems there.

Nah, just poor reading on my part. Sorry.

Sounds like everything is in good order. At this point, I'd chalk it up to needing some more time. No weight loss in three weeks could be due to water depletion/retetion at weigh in. Is she weighing herself at the same time of day? Most people weigh several pounds more in the evenings as opposed to the morning.

Is she new to training in general? Some people have unexpected muscle gains very early on in training, even without the caloric surplus often required by advanced trainees.

Meh, I'm not helping much- and I'm failing to make up for my previous unhelpfulness.

Weight is the attraction between the person and the earth. Her body composition has probably changed some - don't worry about weight.

She needs to sleep more, and that is a personal decision on her part to cut out things in her life that are stopping her from getting enough sleep. I can't help there, thats up to her.

Re: Help for my lady friend

25-30% body fat should be 10-11 blocks; not 12.

25%
0.25 * 145 = 36.25
145 - 36.25 = 108.75
108.75 * 0.7 = 76.125
76.125 / 7 = 10.875 blocks

30%
0.3 * 145 = 43.5
145 - 43.5 = 101.5
101.5 * 0.7 = 71.05
71.05 / 7 = 10.15 blocks

I don't know how much of a difference that 1 extra block is making, but it's a place you could start looking, at least. Also, what George said; BF%/composition should be what you're watching, rather than her actual weight. With added muscle, her weight might even go up...

For me, stress is one huge factor, and constant activity is another.
I love my vacation body. The daily desk grind body? Eh, not so nice.

Re: Help for my lady friend

if she is following 12 blocks and being very strict with weighing food, then I am baffled that she would not lose weight. Without extra fat, that is about 1200-1400 calories which is super low for a 145lb woman.

It's the being very full thing that is strange to me, especially since you say she is eating a lot of fruit for carbs. How on earth could she be feeling very full after her meals?!

What was her diet like prior to this?

Re: Help for my lady friend

I am wondering if it has to do with Birth Control. That is why I posted that. She is super strict. The only other thing could be a little excess fat intake, but honestly, I don't think that's it either. My guess is birth control.
