Sweartiquette

So my mother in law who has been trying to convince me to move my wife and I to Maryland sent me this magzine naming the top gyms in Baltimore and some small tid bits of info about them. Top Trainers, gym rates, ect.. were mentioned none of which were impressive because they named group exercise instructors and their classes as the base of the gyms appeal. Where I can see how this would be more beneficial than strictly machine based circuits, these were highly boasted as well, they pale in comparison to my more recently adopted doctrine.
One of the highlights of the article was a section dubbed "Sweatiquette". This article pointed out 10 of the unwritten rules of the gym. Ejnoy , number 3 is good.
1. Shower before you wrok out; also, a little deodorant goes a long way.
2. Don't hog the equipment. While some clubs put a cap on how long you can jog on the treadmill, others leave it up to you. Limit yourself to 30 minutes.
3. No grunting or weight salmming. Planet Fitness sounds an alarm to keep this behavior in check. Other area gyms rely on you not to embarrass yourself.
4. Clean up after yourself. Whether it's an empty water bottle or a pool of swear on the floor, make sure you practice good housekeeping.
5. Look in the mirror and dress your body type. Oh, if someone doesn't follow this rule- don't stare.
6. In group fintess class, don't get territorial if someone gets to "your spot" before you. Relax and remember you camt to re-energize and unwind.
7. When circuit training, don't be afraid to ask someone if you can work out betwwn their sets. But when you do, always reset the weights to the top of the rack.
8. Even if it's not banned, do not talk on your cell phone. This is not the time to catch up with your BFF. You're here to work out.
9. Though this seems rather obcious, when you're naked in the locker room, don't use a blow dryer to dry yourself.
10. Use whatever rules you learned in kindergarten. It's a sage bet they apply to the gym as well.

I agree with a couple of them, but it is def not a way to get me to go up there and train. LOL

Re: Sweartiquette

Oh, gee, #3 is funny.

I just got home from Albany Crossfit where some beautiful young things were doing the Crossfit total while I was pushing through a Fran and Jackie. (Luke, Jason, Brett, Niki...you know who you are!)

While I was leaving, from all the way UPSTAIRS and DOWN THE HALL, I heard the most ungodly screams coming from the Crossfit area. Sounded like some medieval torture chamber. Then I heard the weights drop.

I bet dollars to doughnuts there's some PRs today on heavy weights, if not new members of the 1000 pound club. If not today, soon.

#3 is funny. Maybe you want to move to Albany, NY?

Susie

Re: Sweartiquette

pukie def does not sound welcome.
Yea the shower before you workout thing is what hooked me to read the whole thing.
Funny story though, one of my clients used to take showers before she came to work out. LOL now she's my wife. So there might be something to that one.

Perhaps in the USA, y'all do things a bit differently but for what would you use a blow dryer if not to dry yourself?

Is it used to dry your clothes?

I would be of the mindset that it's for your hair, not your wang
