Re: anyone whole30 while very active?

today was my first day of whole 30. I have to tally to see how I did.

I usually make 4 smoothies a day--all with tons of veggies, protein powder, water or unsweetened almond milk and ice. I really liked the convenience and the taste and the quick delivery of protein and nutrients from the veggies (usually frozen cauli and a good mix of greens).

so now I can't have protein powder and I still want a smoothie. today I made one with 1/4 c. coconut milk from can (whole foods brand), 1/2 c. water, big handful of spinach, 1/2 c. mango, frozen cauli. It was okay but no protein so I guess I need to add an egg or something.

I don't want to lose weight necessarily-I am 5'7" 130-135 and I am a long distance runner. I could use less flab in the middle but after 3 c-sections, I think it will take plastic surgery.

thanks for the input!

I soooooo don't understand the dependence on the smoothies so I apologize in advance. Real food is yummers. Is it a convenience thing for you? Have you considered using dried egg whites as a protein replacement in your liquid meals? (sorry I have always wanted to use that guy)

Why can't you have protein powder in your Smoothie? I've been on Paleo for a year and I have some whey protein when I have a Smoothie.

Re: anyone whole30 while very active?

I did a Whole30 while doing CrossFit (actually only about 4 days/week) and I ended up with adrenal fatigue. If you do it, make sure you eat lots of carbs. However, I WAS eating good PWO nutrition so I don't know what the heck happened there.

I don't believe smoothies at all are allowed on whole30. am I wrong? Drinking your calories isn't a good idea, in a general.

I'm still trying to figure out what is the difference between Whole30 and strict Paleo. Anyone want to help me out?

Steve, I think they are pretty much the same. Whole30 has a clear definitive set of yes and no foods while doing "their" program but it is essentially a strict 30 day Paleo.

Re: anyone whole30 while very active?

Okay thanks, Tricia.

For me, I find W9's "holier than thy" attitude and condescending tones hard to get passed especially considering they lack any solid credentials in the field of nutrition, their program completely lacks any originality (repackaged Paleo Diet) and most important of all they have a complete disdain for CrossFit as a program, its leaders and the community in general.

Honestly, I find it insulting as a CrossFit affiliate owner that other affiliate owners continue to host them at their gyms considering their public objection against CrossFit.

Re: anyone whole30 while very active?

I don't see the difference in mixing spinach, fruit and other veggies with coconut milk in my vitamix than sitting down and eating them on a plate. I like them cold and I can mix and get in the car a go with my kids who are insanely busy.

I am doing well on my whole30. I feel good and leaner under my ribs where I was constantly bloated. My fats have increased significantly--is there a ratio of protein/carb/fat I should be shooting for?

I started the intro classes at my crossfit and it is good-I am sore and not very good at anything but I am still feeling good to run. I am just going to do 2 days a week during relay season then go more starting in november.
