I have been doing ab exercises for months, and I still have a little pouch on my lower abdomen.

Also, since I am on the subject, how do you get rid of love handles?

Thank you!

You probably already have washboard abs the problem is that there is a layer of fat over them. IF you really feel you need to see them then it is gonna be 90% nutrition.

That's more a factor of diet than exercise. Some is genetics, but a six pack is about having decent ab development, little bodyfat and thin skin. Ab focused exercise won't spot reduce fat in the area. Get fit, get lean. Train hard and eat right.

jonathon, the only time I can say I had a visible six pack was when I gave up sugar. I lost considerable weight and you could see my ribs and my stomach caved in. Of course it was hard to stay off sugar forever. I agree from experience, that if you want to see that six pack, it is under some level of food on top of it. Good luck

Roger's comment was right on point. Spot reduction does not work. The most important factors in seeing your abs will be your diet and reducing your overall body fat percentage.

You also may have built up enough fat cells that you will never really be able to get rid of the fat around your lower abdomen: when you gain lots of fat, you may increase the number of fat cells you have. You lose weight, and the cells shrink down, but they never go away.

Also, as was said above, "spot reducing" doesn't work. You just have to lose the fat by consuming less energy than you expend, and it'll slowly come off, everywhere at once.

If you are of average size or bigger eat a tighter diet. It is that simple.

I obviously agree with the nutrition comment, but one thing that may help is to try and increase the size of your abs. DOing all the heavy core exercises correctly (squats, deads, OH pressing, etc) will help, but if you really want to you can throw in some weighted situps. I started doing these a few months ago to help my BJJ and my abs became highly visible, with little reduction in bodyfat. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you have a low BF, and you still aren't happy, trying to make them bigger and more prominent will help. If you don't have low enough BF, don't listen to me, listen to ROger, because big abs under a layer of fat won't help nobody...

I had the same issue for a while and had resigned myself to having some excess fat on my lower abs / love handle area (what are they really called?)

Going on the Zone diet for the last 2 months has changed that. My 'pouch' is mostly gone and if the light is right I almost have my 6 pack - almost an 8 pack! And my handles are greatly dimished to almost gone. Even sitting down my abs look respectful.

Don't give up! Work hard, eat right and they will come.
