i know this topic has been brought up before, but couldn't get a solid answer based on previous posts. so here are my questions:
what is the best substitute for running? i've been rowing on a concept 2 rower when it calls for running. if it calls for a 400m run i'll row 400m all out, etc. i don't run because of chronic knee problems. too much impact. if rowing is a valid substitue for running, should i just continue doing what i am doing, or is there a way to figure out what i should be rowing when i use it as a replacement? thanks! scott |

Walking push kick lunges and kicks on the heavy bag seem like good possibilities.

Scott,
depends on how you do your rows. if you are doing them on high drag or low drag; high spm or low spm. there are several variables that influence the outcome wrt muscles worked. different people give responses based upon their own preferences as you have discovered. you haven't mentioned at what levels you have the machine set nor the stroke rate; you can send a note to my email if you wish. that would be easier. you can incorporate the quads more by doing different things with the machine depending on your goals. |

mark-
for a while i had the machine set at 9 because i had no idea, but have recently set it at 3. it seems like the harder you pull the more resistance you get. i've also noticed that you can emphasize different body parts, say, use your legs more, etc. so i guess i'll just stik to what i've been doing because it feels like it's working and that seems to be the biggest determining factor. |
