I noticed that the Samson stretch done in Crossfit Central Scotland is not how I do them.

The way I do them, my front knee is ALL the way forward so that my shin is parallel to the floor and my front heel is up and touching my hamstring. My back knee is off the ground.

Am I doing it wrong or am I doing it right and some people just aren't as flexible?

Stanley,

I do them (and teach them) similar to how they're done in the photo for CFCS. I like to see it a little longer than what's in the photo, but the point is to stretch the trail-leg hip flexor and lead leg glute & ham.

I'd have to see what you're doing, but it doesn't sound like the Samson stretch, as I know it. I like to see a nearly vertical shin on the lead leg, with the knee not going past the toes.

It's basically a lengthened lunge with active shoulders and fingers interlaced.

There's a picture of a couple dudes doing the Samson stretch in one of the past CFJs (I believe it's Issue 8). Their stretch looks very similar to that shown on the CFCS blog.

Mike

You're right Mike. I looked at the FAQ and they cite the April 2003 CFJ.

I'll get that back issue. It seems that I am WAY over-extended on the front leg.

Knees past the toes aren't good for any other movement why would it be good for the Samson Stretch? My bad.

The photos I have on the blog show the lead foot a wee bit too far forward for my liking too Mike, I should have sorted that as they were doing it.
