Challenge?

We are looking to do a friendly contest with some local endurance guys. They are looking at 4 crossfitters running a marathon (10k each) vs 1 of their guys at same distance. The other part of the challenge is Fran. Here's the question. How to score? I am thinking we will lose the run, some of these guys run 3:00. If we run 3:20 whats the metric to measure ? Total time will be irrelevant in terms of comparison because if we are twice as fast on Fran...it gets goofy. Anyone have a simple solution. We are all friendly and looking to do this in the interest of curiosity and fun.

Re: Challenge?

Not sure about scoring method either, but in the spirit of "we can do your stuff almost as good as you, and any other stuff much better" or however it is the saying goes; shouldn't the CrossFit competitor run the entire marathon? Sure it'll be tough, but I'd be willing to bet they'd get it done, whereas I don't expect a marathoner could even finish Fran. In fact I'd even suggest changing it to Cindy perhaps.

Re: Challenge?

If you're up for it (and be cautious) do them back to back. About a year ago I did a half-marathon row, J.T., a 500m swim and topped it off with 10 man-makers using 50lb dumbbells. It was an experience unlike any other.

Re: Challenge?

How is it fair that the crossfit guys have to only run about 1/4 of the marathon while the "endurance" guys have to do the entire crossfit workout?Running a 10 k is a whole lot different than running 26.2.

Time to put up or shut up?

Re: Challenge?

This is a little tongue in cheek challenge that I have at our gym. Run a marathon and then immediately complete a 500lb deadlift. Best overall time wins. I have not had anyone take me up on the offer yet.

Re: Challenge?

I have wondered how anything like this can be compared. I know a few CF guys that could bang out 26.2, and a few marathoners that could hand in a CF work out. Question would be if an "endurance guy" goes 3:00 in a Marathon and CF guy does 4:00 how would a Fran be compared? I would wager that Cf guy would clear Fran in about 1/2 the time of marathoner. seems like apples and oranges and putting in a "Grace" or "Diane" would end the deal.

Ouch. It would take some cash to make me do something like that. Sounds fun, though! Reminds me of someone's challenge on here of a 1RM DL followed by a 1m run for time...on crack.

Re: Challenge?

Marathon: 1 minute = 1 point
Fran: 1 second = 1 point
(ie, 3 minute fran = 3 hour marathon)

Get all 8 guys to finish the marathon and fran, tally the points, the team with the fewest points wins.

Re: Challenge?

If these are pure marathon guys, will they be able to complete 45 pullups? I'm serious.

Have you considered something like FGB, at least it won't result in complete muscle failure (in theory I guess)?
