I find that trying to adhere to the Zone again, I am better when I eat the same thing every day.
I am slowly transitioning into the prescribed blocks by mixing foods to get a feel for the plan again. Breakfast 1 pack of quaker oatmeal 1 handful of berries small handful of almonds Snack granny smith apple Lunch Chicken or fish on a salad with peppers broccoli and a few olives little extra sharp cheddar cheese Snack zone perfect bar (chocolate fix) Dinner chx or fish ususally same as lunch mixed veggies less salad Water all day trying to remove diet coke maybe a glass of milk or cran/orange juice Anyone willing to post their typical day food intake. At least I know my grocery list and prices wont vary too much week to week! |

Is that sufficient protein in the AM? I find that my egg consuption has skyrocketted since the zone.
Edit: My *morning* AM egg consumption. (Message edited by paul on May 03, 2006) |

Julie, looking at your food, your AM blocks are not in the zone. You would need to add some sort of protein to make them be in the zone.

Though there are some discrepencies, I'll answer your original question with yes, I usually eat mostly similar foods from day to day. As you said, it just makes it easier. My overall intake seems to change the most with the seasons, so I have a basic menu for winter, spring, summer and fall. Within those basic constructs I occasionally buy and incorporate new things, but it definitely isn't the norm.

A day for me has been running out like this.
Breakfast: 3/4 Cup Egg Beaters with 2oz Deli ham Apple Sauce and Grapes Almonds Snack: Nonfat Yogurt with a teaspoon of Peanut Butter Lunch: Large Salad with Tuna or Chicken Grapes and Pineapple cup Olives Snack: Same as above Dinner: Varies every night, try to change this one up, but still following the zone. Tonight it was a 98% fat free turkey chili. |

I agree its easier to eat the same thing but it gets old. I've been experimenting with IF, paleo-athlete's zone, and some ketogenics so I'm basically eating tons of fat, moderate protein, and almost no carbs. I plan on adding fruits back in on June 1st(strawberries baby!!) My typical day right now is usually:
Breakfast: 3 blocks eggs 15 blocks nuts(walnuts, almond butter) Water, vitamins, probiotics, fish oil Lunch: 3 blocks grassfed beef or chicken or egg white protein drink 1 block or approx. 10g broccoli 2 blocks olive oil, about 10 blocks walnuts/almond butter fish oil Snack: Egg white protein in water w/cinnamon Dinner: about the same as lunch I know its only 4 meals but I just can't consistently squeeze another one in unless its late evening. I try and avoid that so I can stay on an IF schedule. |

My 2 cents. I don't eat according to the zone, at least as far as I know. (If I do, it is a purely fortiuitous side effect of eating paleo.) But I would think that there are some moderately significant nutritional downsides to eating the same stuff everyday. The most effective way to cover all your micronutrient bases (including phytocehmicals, etc) is by variety. It is also the best way of avoiding anti-nutrients.

I eat relatively similar things day-to-day. I'm working on incorporating seasonal produce variations, that's the most difficult part.
