It looked like he was almost performing a haka right before he did the feat.

I have a question about these guys. Why the big guts on most of them. I've also noticed that with women power lifters. I understand needing to be big..but I don't understand the kinda huge gut and some even look fat?

My impulse is to say because they eat to be big, with no eye towards proper nutrition. The Dave Tate Project is a pretty fascinating read on this subject.

A huge gut can help with the bottom of a squat. And in most cases it's the heavyweights and superheavyweights who have guts. As with Oly lifting, sub-heavyweight lifters are usually quite lean.

If you do a lot of deadlifts and O-lifts, sometimes your belly sticks out too. I remember Mario Martinex from a few years ago, who had a belly that stuck out, but seemingly had almost no bodyfat. Alexeev for a long time was very lean too. I'll throw my name in there, because I share a belly with them. There's not as much fat in there as one might think. Still too much, but you can see the muscle detail in there pretty clearly if I tense my abs.
It's funny, but my belly button popped out a while back, like I'm a cooked turkey. I'm an outy now. It doesn't hurt, so I've just decided not to worry about it. |
