Any one have ideas about how to remain focused during the longer WODs and ME days. I was doing 5x5 clean and jerks today and just couldn't focus enough to get the last set.

Sometimes, in my case, that calls for a week off...Evaluate how you feel regardless of if you can complete the workout or not, if you've had any nagging pain (particularly low back, shoulder, or knee) and then see if you might need to take a back off week. A lot of guys follow the 3 weeks ramping up, 1 week cutting the volume down by half approach which seems to avoid any instances of overtraining.

Right on, Charlie. When you get to that point where you can't focus, don't care what your time is that day, nagging soreness, constantly tired throughout the day, it's time to take some time off or ramp it down.
Barring that scenario, I recommend "Rocket Queen" by Guns & Roses. |

I recite the speech by Bill Murray's character in Meatballs, the "IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER" one. That always gets my through any mental sticking points.
And even if we win(ed: finish this workout), if we win, HAH! Even if we play so far above our heads that our noses bleed for a week to ten days; even if God in Heaven above points his hand at our side of the field; even if every man woman and child joined hands together and prayed for us to win, it just wouldn't matter because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money! It just doesn't matter if we win or if we lose. IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! Rest of group: IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER... |

Try supplementing. I use a product by Ergo-pharm called Gaba-tropin, it's a mood-enhancer that's not a stimulant. It also does wonders for focus. Any mail order or GNC type of store should carry it.

Try to approach it just like you do when you run out of strength, stamina or puke resistance. We are definitely training focus here, and it is at least as important (and functional) as any other aspect of fitness.
