Need some Grease the Groove Clarification for Pushups

I read through a lot of threads and articles about "Grease the Groove," but I still need some help and/or clarification.

For example, if my max number of pushups was say 50 reps, and I wanted to increase that number by greasing the groove.

Do I do knock one set of 40-45 pushups multiple times throughout the day for a total of say 300 or 400 pushups in an entire day, or should I do 10 pushups here, 10 pushups there throughout the day for a total of 300 or 400 pushups in an entire day?

Thanks in advance.

Probably something in between the two, more like the 10 here and there.
The idea is to do as much as you can, as fresh as you can. Don't take it to failure, but don't let yourself off easy, either.

If you can knock out 20 - 30 several times a day, and increase as you get stronger you'll proably see better results.

Re: Need some Grease the Groove Clarification for Pushups

Here is Pavel's "Hit the Deck" program, which may get better results that GTG for pushups.

The Evil Russian’s
“Hit The Deck” Program
WEEK 1 %of RM Frequency
Monday 100% eval 30% 60min
Tuesday 50% 60min
Wednesday 60% 45min
Thursday 25% 60min
Friday 45% 30min
Saturday 40% 60min
Sunday 20% 90min
WEEK 2
Monday 100% eval 35% 45min
Tuesday 55% 20min
Wednesday 30% 15min
Thursday 65% 60min
Friday 35% 45min
Saturday 45% 60min
Sunday 25% 120min
WEEK 3
Monday 100% eval

So the first Monday is a 100% eval, and 30% of that every hour, Tuesday is 50% of Monday every hour, Wednesday is 60% every 45 minutes, etc.

Re: Need some Grease the Groove Clarification for Pushups

For Pavel's Hit the Deck Program, how many "sets" will I do in a day.

For instance, the Tuesday 50% of my Monday max every 60 minutes. How many of them will I have to do in a day?

And how often can this program be repeated?

Thanks for the help.

Recon Ron pullup program works just as well for pushups (and basically anything else).

What's the conversion from pullups to pushups on the recon ron workout?

Eh? If it's based on percentage just find your max and scale accordingly. If it's not... then it's probably not a great program, lol. But seriously, if it's not then just divide by some arbitrary number like 3 or 4 and then see if that's too easy/hard then scale that.

Pavel's program can be repeated for as long as you can stand the redundancy. As for the Tuesday question, you can do as many sets as you like, but it would be a good idea to set a time period (say ten hours) for each day. I have used it during the work day (to combat boredom at work as well).

I would highly recommend building a set of parallettes, put your feet on a 24" box, and do ladders of pushups. Your numbers will increase nicely.

I thought the recon ron program was not based on percentages?
