A good way to microload is to mix metric and standard weight plates. For example remove 2 x 2 1/2 lb plates, and then add 2 x 1 1/4 kg plates which weigh 2 3/4 lbs, and you have an increase of 1/2lb.

Get 2" washers from mcmaster carr. Weigh em, and tape em up. Real cheap solution.

And yes they are worth it for lifts such as the bench press and overhead press!!!
