I hope Pierre reads this. I made a slamball today. It was really easy. Great instructions from Pierre! http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/26/28109.jpg
Thanks Pierre!
The only things I paid for were the tire kit and the shoe Goo.
I got the sand from Rock Creek Park and the ball I found at a playground in the woods about a year ago. The syringe well...that came from work.

I call it a slamball too, as it's more of a proper name now! And you look like you did a great job I'm glad my instructions are useful I've had lots of great feedback about them.

And Matt if your question is in fact a question slamball is the act of slamming a heavy medicine ball against the ground repeatedly from overhead, a great exercise. If it wasn't actually a question then I apologize..

I started looking through the exercise archive and haven't seen a WOD where Slam Ball is mentioned. When do you guys play it?

We busted mine this weekend. I used gorilla glue instead of shoe goo. So I'm not sure if it was my glue or lack of duct tape that was my problem! I'm going to reinforce tonight with a more flexible adhesive (like shoe goo) and lots of duct tape!

My client and I broke a medicine ball at work doing this. I like to use slamball with some of my clients as a fun change of pace. We'll slam it back and forth to pass it, or see who can make it bounce highest, etc. I favor partner drills that develop coordination and body mechanics.

One good drill has person A do a high basketball-style pass to B. B catches the ball, absorbing the force, then brings the ball back overhead before slamming it down to pass it back to A. At the gym, I have the ball slammed on a rubber mat to increase the challenge, and gradually increase the distance between A and B. Every 15-30 reps, A and B switch roles. I often have my client use just one arm for the slams or the overhead passes part of the time, alternating sides.

Marc,
slamball though perhaps not as common an exercise in the WOD as say, pull-ups, is in fact still used fairly often. Its good fun, and generally if enough reps are used makes every muscle in your body wonder what semi just ran you over. All good fun!
