Any ideas on where to pick up a big 'ol tire? I'm looking for a big truck or tractor tire for a tire workout now that I have a perfect area to do one...

I've been to tire places and junk yards but all they seem to have are car tires (they have their uses but are too small for what I have in mind).

ANy ideas? I know there are folks here who have them....where did you guys get them?

What about a tractor (farm or construction) maintenance/service center? That's where I would look first. Although, I live in a pretty rural area, so I don't know if those are everywhere.

Check with local farmers. Everyone has at least one farm nearby, you may have to drive an hour, hour and a half to get there, but they're there.

farmers are a good idea. however...i live near NYC...and we're dearly lacking in tractor supply stores.

i haven't checked this out yet, but i was told by someone who competes in strongman comps that checking with the local highway maintenance department can be fruitful

Brian,

Talk to your department's mechanics. You should be able to get a nice 4 or 5 footer from them.

Any tire centers near by. I picked up these bad boys at a tire repair place right up the street from me.http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/26/40623.jpg

D'OH! Michael, I never even thought of going to the FD Shop to check with the mechanics! Thanks!

After finding a tire, for me, the next biggest problem is convincing the wife to keep these things in the backyard...I got nixed on the tire, working on the stones and have a log.

How deep/thick are those big tires? I have a pretty small garage that I want to keep parking my car in. Thanks.
