Powermax Training Bar

Hello folks,

A couple vendors have the powermax training bar (15lbs, max weight 200lbs) for sale. Besides being good for technique training, it is also the right weight to add two 25lb bumpers onto for most women's crossfit workouts.

Given that, how well does it hold up to being dropped with bumpers (assume just the 65lbs the vast majority of the time, not max presses and stuff)?

Thanks...

Re: Powermax Training Bar

We have 3 of these bars, and while we haven't broken any of them I would not recommend using them for CrossFit workouts. They are designed for technique training. The 200 lb rating is basically just putting the bar on the rack with 200 lbs, not dropping or agressively lifting. If you want to get to 65 lbs cheaply, I would go with a men's bar with 10 lbs rather than the Aluminum bar with 25's. Aluminum will not hold up well.

There are some reasonably priced light steel bars out there. The Pendlay Economy Junior is a good choice. It weighs 22 lbs, and you won't have to worry about it breaking during a workout.

Re: Powermax Training Bar

Ok, thanks Ahmik. The word 'aluminum' escaped me at first look.

Oh well, I'll move onto Glenn's smaller bars then.
