Substitution for L Pull up's?

I Maybe can do a couple of these. Would a good subtitution be to jump to the L position and then pull up. AKA jumping L pullups?

Re: Substitution for L Pull up's?

I've seen hang, swing the legs up to L, and use the momentum to help with the pull... I've seen regular pullups plus L-sits (or L-hangs)... I've seen kipping pullups to the top, then an L-negative on the way down...

I normally tuck my legs in with my knees in mid-air. For some reason, I'm just not a fan of L-pullups. Maybe b/c I'm not very good at them either.

That's not a bad idea, just tuck your legs up, uses similar muscles, although not as much of a stabilizer thing I suppose.

Tuck up your knees to your sitting position, but put a 5 lb dumbell in between your knees, may be a 10 lber for the weight difference....close to an L pullup in difficulty sorta the same.

Another idea is to get a theraband and plop your butt/thighs into it rather than your feet.

Tuck or tuck with weight is probably better though.

Re: Substitution for L Pull up's?

IMO tucked legs is about a thousand times easier, so it's a little sketchy as a sub. Obviously if you need it, do it... but a better route might be doing them as L's until you can't do 'em no mo', then letting your legs tuck to finish the workout.

Re: Substitution for L Pull up's?

Anyone have any tips for getting the L-pull-up started? I find it hard to get moving from the deadhang with my legs extended.

Re: Substitution for L Pull up's?

To start deadhang pullups in L, start with a bent leg L pullup. More leverage than a tuck but easier than the L.

Jay, how about jumping pull up, then lower down in L. The whole point of the L pullup is to do a sort of disadvantaged weighted pullup. If you're not doing L pullups or deadhangs, it's kind of moot. Kipping through the L negates it really being an L pullup. All in all, negative L pullups sound like your best bet.
