Thanks! Seems like there's more than a few of us out there. Maybe I should start a "Short, middle-aged, jewish guys please sign in" thread and then lobby to have a special category at the Games.

I can already hear the announcer: "Steckler was looking good till his sciatica starting acting up. Someone asks if he needs needs help. He responds that he'd rather suffer than be a bother...next up is Costanza..."

To be fair, sciatica is a pain. Oddly enough, my sciatica got better the more squats and deadlifts I did. I went from barely being able to touch my kneecaps to being able to touch my toes again after just a couple of months. Before that, my doc told me I might want to consider surgery on my back...

Love the Goy sense of humor demonstrated here.

Neither: I did it just for fun. I'm not a Marine, though I happen to be employed by the Navy (i.e., I'm a Navy CIV).

The Barraks Row Festival that I referred to in the OP is a street festival that takes place in a neighborhood of Washington DC called Barraks Row. It is named for the historic Marine Barraks located there: http://www.marines.mil/unit/barracks/pages/welcome.aspx (WFS).

Reatailers, non-profits, restaurants, etc. set up tables to make sales, sign-up new members, etc from the approximately 10,000 people that attend. The Marines do as well. At their "table", the Marines set up a pull-up bar and had the ammo can (full of something other than ammo, I assume). If you could do the 20 dead-hand pulls (which I believe is part of the Marine PRT), you got a T-shirt or other trinket. If you could do the 100 ammo can presses in under 2 minutes you got the T-shirt as well as any other trinket you wanted.

If you could do both, well, in addition to the trinkets, you got the admiration of the young Marines manning the table (as well as the sizable crowd watching people line up to take the challenge)
