THis the the 6th week I ve been doing Paleo. I wanted to check if I m on ketosis mode so I got the strips. The showed a negative result. How come I m not in Ketosis when I have been following the diet 99%?

I could be way off but...

Fruit? Sweet Potato? My understanding is that you really need to go low carb to hit ketosis but there are many ways to get carbs within paleo if you eat lots of fruit or include sweet potatoes.

Sometimes i eat one small apple but this is very rare. I do eat sweet potatoes though. I heard that you need to eat sweet potatoe after working out. I may have 6 ozs of sweet potatoe p/day. Other than that I m not getting any kind of carbs. Well I do eat a lot of vegetables and some meet jerky . Do you think I should cut the SP and the fruit at all?

Re: ketosis

Wjat are your goals that require you to be in ketosis? Eating paleo doesn't mean you will go into ketosis.

Re: ketosis

What are your goals? Why are you trying to get into ketosis?

Re: ketosis

I believe Robb W said that the "average" person needs take in under 30 grams of carbs per day for ketosis to take effect (Mark Sisson puts it at 0-50 grams of carbs while IF'ing), obviously everyone will be slightly different. The 6 oz of sweet potato will put you above the 30 grams, add in whatever else you are getting from veggies and the occasional apple (even if it is not very much) and you won't be in ketosis. So that is probably why you're not in ketosis... now onto to what Meghan said... why ketosis?

Re: ketosis

Ketosis is great for burning fat but not so great for optimizing performance and recovery. The sweet potatoes are good for helping recovery but not good for ketosis--even if they're in your PWO meal they still probably put your daily carb intake too high to be in ketosis.

Lower my BF% , so at the CF facility they suggest to go under Ketosis until I get leaner. He suggest to to this for a month : No fuit at all, and so forth. But I follow The Paleo Evolution diet /recipes that I can see includes fruit and sweet potatoes. I can tell you that my strengh is getting better everyday and I have a lot of energy but still I haven't lost any fat.

Re: ketosis

Unless you need to get lean in the next month, you'll probably be happier, perform better, and have more sustainable fat loss if you eat a reasonable amount of carbs along with your good protein and fats.

Are you eating enough? Undereating can seriously stall fat loss.
