Re: Inspirational Quotes

First post but I like quotes so why not, here's one I have had on my wall for years:

"I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour- his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear-is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious!" -Vince Lombardi

The term "Man" in his quote I believe easily refers to all of humanity, men and women.

Re: Inspirational Quotes

“You’ve got to drive the body to the last inch of energy then go on! You gain nothing by just going up to where your body says you’re tired. The body will build and grow only to fit the demands the mind makes upon the lazy body. If all you do is exercise until the body is tired, the body will get lazy and stop a bit shorter every time. You must go to the point of exhaustion, then go on. That way the body figures out, “We’ve got to build up more strength if that crazy mind is going to drive this hard!” If you always quit when you are merely tired, you will never gain. Once you let the body tell the mind when to quit, you are whipped for sure. You can not gain by listening to the body. We can become much stronger if we drive the body. We use about on-tenth of the available strength of our bodies and less than that of our minds.”

-General George Patton

Re: Inspirational Quotes

Okay, I thought of a couple more from Ralph Waldo Emerson in the essay "Self Reliance."

"Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist."

"A senseless conformity is the hobgoblin of small minds, adored by little statesmen, philosophers and divines..."

Brilliant! I've never heard that before, and absolutely love it. Thanks.

Re: Inspirational Quotes

"The more blood spilt in practice, the less spilt in battle"

"For He Who Sheds His Blood With Me Shall Be My Brother"

Oddly enough, my rugby coach was particularly fond of these two quotes, particularly during Afrikans

Re: Inspirational Quotes

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." - Robert Heinlein

And from the poster in my garage gym...

"Growing old is not for sissies."

Oh, this one will see some mileage!
