Advice needed
I am training for my organizations tactical team, and I need some advice for how to prepare for it. I am new to Crossfit, so bear with me, and I'll try to make it short and sweat. I need to improve in the following areas; weighted pullups (40 lbs.), pushups, situps and the 1.5 mile run. Any suggestions on how in increase the numbers in these exercises? They use a lot of kettlebells in their training, which I have been using for a few weeks, but I don't feel my conditioning with the other exercises is where it needs to be. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Advice needed
Are you doing the official Crossfit Warm-Up before the posted workouts? That alone should help tremendously.

Re: Advice needed
I have about 3 months to get ready for it. My workouts mainly consist of Crossfit style circuits with pullups, pushups, situps and interval sprints. I mix in some KB snatches, swings and thrusters w/ sprints on the treadmill. Is this the type of training I should follow? Thanks for the help.

Re: Advice needed
You're on the right track, but why not just follow the CrossFit.com programming (with the CFWU)? After a month or so (i.e.: once you've started to adapt to the volume/intensity), start adding in CrossFit Endurance WODs to the mix. You'll be ready to go for your test. However, it's important to remember that you aren't training for the TEST, but training for real life - to keep yourself and others alive. Whenever you think about slowing down or giving up, just realize that in real life, that's not an option.
There is a deep LEO/Mil base here and pretty much all of us use the mainpage WOD for our training regimine - with great results. I know it seems crazy, but just trust in the programming...you WILL see results. Also, if you can stop by an affiliate gym, you'll get to see a different world that what you've ever experienced. Not to mention that the coaching and camaraderie are priceless. - Alex |
