ninja warrior, good crossfit test?

I saw this show on g4 and thought it would be a good test for crossfitters. I wish i could a good vdieo of the salmon ladder. It is the ultimate test of kipping pullups. the grip strength these guys have is amazing.

Re: ninja warrior, good crossfit test?

I've seen this show too and that it'd be really fun to compete in that type of competition. It's like American Gladiator but better in my opinion. Too bad they don't have any in America. They once had an American Olympic decathlete on there ( I don't remember who it was, but it wasn't Bryan Clay ) and he performed pretty poorly. I think this means that it's not necessarily a test of overall fitness but it's a pretty good test of specific fitness for this niche. I can't see any big guys doing well at this event. I bet Steven Low would do pretty well at this.

Re: ninja warrior, good crossfit test?

Ninja warrior is pretty sweet, and I think it has come up here before.

The only problem with it as a "CF" activity is that it (especially the third and fourth rounds) are extremely upper body centric. You'd need to have worked the gymnast part of the "gymnast-weightlifter-sprinter" combination a bit more than I think CF typically does to get through the last half. Then again, I haven't watched in a while and this may have changed.

It also doesn't test absolute strength. As far a test goes, I don't know how good it is, since it can only test the elite athletes. But for those that can compete in it, it is an excellent test.

The latter rounds are all about upper body strength. Great show. The guys that make it through round 3 are monsters.

Re: ninja warrior, good crossfit test?

They've had several olympic medalists compete, including Paul Hamm, winner of the 2004 Gold in mens all-around. Jovtchev made it to the final stage once, but none of the olympic gymnasts has won it.

Makoto Nagano is really in a class by himself on that show. The one bad thing about the show is that they have had to keep making the 3rd stage harder and harder to keep Nagano from cruising through it, and now it's so freakishly hard that only he has a shot at it.

What's not to like about a show where the final stage is to climb a 50 foot rope in 30 seconds? (or used to be, they have changed it now)

All you ever wanted to know about Ninja Warrior ("Sasuke" in Japan), you can find out at wikipedia articles on the competitors and obstacles.

Re: ninja warrior, good crossfit test?

I don't think the gymanst, weight lifter sprinter combo is optimal for this show. Its more a rock climber - traceur combo, tilting further and further towards climbing skills as the show goes on.
