I remember seeing an article in a XF Journal about strategies for rowing a 7:00 2K, but now I can't find it. Does anyone remember which issue that was in (I have them all)? Thanks.

Thanks Lynne. I had forgotten you had an index. It's probably spared us all numerous posts like mine....

Dave,
I was looking through the workout archives the other day and came up with a workout that might also be added to the 'magic 7:00 quest'. In early 2001 (March 2), coach suggested a workout of 1:00 as hard as you could followed by 2:00 easy, for 45 minutes. I combined that with another idea of his (stay under 2:00/500m for as long as you can) and tried 1:00 at 1:40/500m followed by 2 minutes at 2:10/500m. What I found was 1) it was hard. I managed 5 intervals and was probably only good for a couple more (ran out of time) 2) it was harder for me to stay under 2:00/500m doing this than alternating 1:55/2:05 for 30 minutes, which I did the other day. So, the goal for me would be to extend the number of times that I can do 1:40/500m with each attempt. This, if course, could be adjusted to any level, say 1:45/500 (race pace if you're going for a sub 7 2000) with 2:20/500 rest, or whatever. Just an idea... Also, the Concept 2 website has some stuff in their traing section on 'training for competition', specifically the 2000m. Dave, great work on the radio show. You are a true professional. This community just continues to amaze me, even when I'm expecting it... |

As Jim said, C2 does have lots of training stuff. Specifically, they have a workout of the day program on their site, where you put in what type of rowing you want (distance, intensity, etc...), or nothing at all if you prefer, and it randomly comes up with a workout for you to do that day. All the workouts are done on the ergometer, no weighttraining or anything, and it is very helpful. The magic path to a sub 7 2k is paved with sweat and blood on the erg or in the boat. Rowing is the best thing you can do to get better at rowing.
