The title says it all. I have and have read The Paleo Diet for Athletes. I understand and agree with the "eats" and "don't eats."
Is there anything to be gained by also reading The Paleo Diet? I'll tack on one other question: Cordain and Friel are obviously talking about endurance athletes, but at times mention the diet's usefulness for other types of athletes. Their Stage II (eating during workout) obviously doesn't apply to CF. Stage IV doesn't really either, IMO. What's the opinion around here about their Stage I (eating before workout) and Stage III (right after a workout)? I tend to apply these, with carbs scaled down some, to conditioning days, but not to strength days. Does this make sense? I think the approach seems to be working ok. Thanks in advance. |

I have and have read The Paleo Diet. It doesn't go into different stages or types of eating, it's just a general overview of the Paleo Diet and what he thinks you should and shouldn't eat.
hope that helps -mike |

I haven't read PD for Athletes, but my understanding is that it speaks towards the allowance of previously banned foods to aid in recovery from endurance work. Is this correct?

Thanks guys. Sounds like I don't need to buy it.
Scott: You're right. The basic idea is to eat Paleo foods for all but a couple of stages. Some Neolithic foods are allowed pre- and post-workout. For example, it's ok to eat starchy carbs right after a workout because they'll supposedly really help with recovery. They also are ok with protein powder and sports drinks at certain times. |
